The comparison

Six months, three criteria, one outcome

OLYMP did not choose on a demo. It compared WAIR with the leading inventory providers on the same three criteria, in its own business.

That is what makes this case different from a before-and-after story. The question was not only whether stock could be run better, but who runs it best.

01

Service

How the provider works with the team: onboarding, responsiveness and support in daily operations.

WAIR best

To confirm with OLYMPWhat made the difference on service, in OLYMP’s words.

02

Functionality

What the tool can actually do for wholesale floors and own stores.

WAIR best

Target stock per style and location, recalculated every day, on 52 locations. By the end, 100% adopted without changes.

03

Quality of output

Whether the recommendations hold up in stock, sales and sell-through.

WAIR best

Wholesale stock −9.7% vs last year with growth held, and sell-through up from 19.9% to 23.6%.

The results

Wholesale: stock down hard, growth held, sell-through up. Own stores: stock down too, while demand was still below last year.

Before WAIR is the change vs last year in weeks 1–26. WAIR live is the change vs last year in weeks 27–37.

of the daily recalculated target stocks were adopted automatically by week 37. Nobody had to check or override them.

Next step, modelled−29.4%

Further stock the model sees as possible for week 37. Forecast accuracy against target 64% → 96%, calculated overstock almost 90% lower.

Modelled, not yet realised

Reading the numbers honestly

  • Revenue growth was already there. Wholesale grew +13.1% before WAIR and +13.0% with WAIR live. That growth held with almost 10% less stock. We do not claim the growth itself.
  • The own stores had a demand gap, not a stock gap. Core-style sales stayed below last year, while availability held or rose and stock came down from +7.0% to −2.6%.
  • Different lengths, same yardstick. The period before WAIR runs 26 weeks and WAIR live 11, so every number is the change versus the same weeks last year.
  • The biggest step is still ahead. The −29.4% is modelled, not realised. That is what the next phase is for.

About OLYMP

German menswear, built on the shirt

OLYMP is a German menswear brand from Bietigheim-Bissingen, founded in 1951 and best known for its shirts. Most of its business runs on wholesale floors at department stores and retail partners, next to its own stores.

One shirt style runs across collar sizes, sleeve lengths and fits. Too much stock on a partner floor ties up capital and ends in the markdown; too little, and the customer leaves without their size. Across dozens of locations, that is a daily decision, which is why OLYMP wanted the best tool for it.

From static targets to daily decisions

Wallie, WAIR's AI replenishment agent, was connected to OLYMP's sales and stock data. From week 27 it recalculated the target stock for every style at all 52 locations, every day.

Wallie runs on Forecast-GPT, WAIR's forecasting model for fashion. It reads real sell-through per location and size. Where a style sells, the target goes up. Where it stands still, stock is held back before it turns into a markdown.

OLYMP's team could check and overrule every target. By week 37, they no longer needed to: 100% of the daily target stocks were adopted automatically, as part of daily operations.

From test to roll-out

The comparison answered OLYMP's question. On wholesale, daily demand-driven target stock brought stock down, lifted sell-through and core-style sales, held growth, and ran without manual work.

For week 37 the model sees room for a further 29.4% less stock, with forecast accuracy against target rising from 64% to 96%. The next phase is about realising that:

  • Daily target stock across more wholesale locations
  • The own stores, as demand recovers
  • From replenishment towards planning, with Whoopie

“When supply and demand are not in sync, supply chains generate waste, known as discounts and lost sales. The potential for margin improvement is huge when the shelf responds to real demand.” – Jasper Zeelenberg, WAIR
